Who and Why

Who is this blog for?

Who started When Everywhere is Home?

Who is Wendy and what has she done?

Who is this blog for?

People who believe their contributions matter.

People who danced to (or sang in the shower to) “We Didn’t Start the Fire” will fit in nicely here.

If you didn’t (that’s okay!) and the quote below makes sense, you too will fit nicely.

We didn’t start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world’s been turning
We didn’t start the fire
No we didn’t light it
But we tried to fight it

Billy Joel, “We Didn’t Start The Fire” from the Album: Storm Front. Release Date: October 17, 1989

People who are continuing, re-embracing, or activating their youthful, “hippie” ideals. A way to “stick it to the man,” save the world and help their children, their siblings and extended family and enjoy life.

Who started When Everywhere is Home?

Wendy Hayko (that’s me!) started When Everywhere is Home in February 2019. When I started this blog I was a divorced woman, living on the road, weeks away from my fifty-first birthday and back in school for the umpty-umpth time, getting yet another degree, this time, an English degree at York University.

Who is Wendy and what has she done?

I am a mother, sister and daughter.

I believe the more you love the more you can love, so I also have four horses, two cats and a dog.

I’ve won awards and been the victim of crimes. I’ve been questioned by police and sat beside my child as they were questioned by police.

I’ve been well off and so poor I had to steal food.

I’ve had all the answers and I have been lost.

I have been hired and fired. I’ve been a wife, volunteer, employee, contractor, manager, executive and independent business person.

I have: managed restaurants, driven taxis, guided communities and businesses after fires and floods, owned micro-business, participated in multi-level marketing and managed people on multiple continents for international corporations. Budgeted for my family, my business and for million-dollar projects. I’ve worked in non-profits, manufacturing, international business and government. I have hired and fired, contractors, employees and volunteers.

I’ve been certified in dozens of technologies and applications, I’ve taught kindergarten to grade eight, developed and delivered highly specialized college and industry courses for professionals. I’ve even taught people from 16 to 83 how to drive a car, pass their driver’s licence test and navigate their vehicle safely around a city.

I am the person capable of doing all these things and these things are a part of me.
